Mailing List

This is our ongoing collaborative list of political prisoners needing love and support. If you would like to see a prisoner added, please send mailing info and a brief summary to us at opPenPal [at] tormail [dot] org. If you see a prisoner listed whom you do not support, don’t write to that individual. We will not censor this list in any way.

Chelsea Manning:

Chelsea Manning is a former US Army intelligence specialist who is accused of releasing classified information to WikiLeaks, who in turn released portions of the information to news organizations and ultimately to the public. The information Manning allegedly leaked includes hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables and the Collateral Murder video, which depicts the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad, including two journalists working for Reuters.

She was sentenced to 35 years in prison, with a possibility of parole after 1/3 of the sentence has been served. She will get nearly 4 years credit for time served, including a 112 day sentence reduction for harsh treatment while in custody.

NOTE: On August 22, 2013 – the day after her sentencing – Manning released a statement confirming her gender as female and requesting feminine pronouns and her preferred name, Chelsea, be used. We respect and honor this request. However, mail to prisoners must bear their full legal name on the envelope to be delivered. As such, we are listing Chelsea’s legal name for mailing purposes only but request that you address her as Chelsea within the text of your letters.

John Kiriakou:

John Kiriakou is a former CIA analyst who, in 2007, gave an interview on ABC admitting that the CIA was using waterboarding as a form of torture on inmates in Guantanamo Bay. He would later go on to give more interviews and, in 2010, released a memoir entitled The Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA’s War on Terror. In 2012 he was charged with repeatedly disclosing classified information to the press. He originally plead not guilty to the charges but in October of 2012 he accepted a deal to plead guilty, sparing reporters he had talked to from having to testify in the trial. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison in January of 2013. John is the only person to be charged for the CIA’s torture program. We here at OpPenPal would like to lend our support to him for standing up for the rights of the press and blowing the whistle on the CIA’s illegal operations at Guantanamo Bay.

You can send an email to kiriakoudefense@gmail.com and his lawyers have said they will forward the messages along to him.

Andrew Auernheimer (aka weev):

Andrew Auernheimer, aka weev, was sentenced to 41 months in Federal prison. He will also be on supervision for 3 years after his release and owes $73,000 in restitution. His lawyers promptly announced their plan to appeal.

His crime? Accessing iPad user information available publicly on the web, which should have been password-protected and encrypted. Now he is a felon under CFAA. Apple and AT&T suffered no such repercussions for their glaring security error.

Cleveland 4:

The Cleveland 4 are Occupy activists accused of terrorism-related charges steaming from a undercover FBI setup.

Connor, Doug and Brandon pled guilty to all charges.  The judge applied a “terrorist enhancement” to each of them, elongating their sentences as well as subjecting them to harsher prison conditions.  Doug is serving 11.5 years, Brandon 9 years 9 months, and Connor 8 years 1 month.

Skelly went to trial and represented himself. He was found guilty and is awaiting sentencing.

They all continue to fight against the government’s attempt to brand them as terrorists, and to expose the techniques of entrapment employed by the FBI and their informant.

Each of the Tinley Park 5 has accepted a non-cooperating plea bargain and they have been transferred to prison facilities to serve their sentences, ranging from 3.5 to 6 years each.

Kevin and Tyler:

Tyler Lang and Kevin Olliff are two Los Angeles animal rights activists who were arrested in rural Illinois for “possession of burglary tools.” After a traffic stop in which they refused consent to a police search, their car was searched anyway. Inside, police allege they found bolt cutters, wire cutters, muriatic acid, ski masks, and cammo clothing.

Police believe these items were “burglary tools” intended to be used in a crime, and arrested Kevin and Tyler. The two are held on felony charges which carry up to 3 years in prison. They have remained in jail since their arrest on August 14th.

There is no evidence linking them to any crime or intended crime, nor were they arrested on anyone’s property, and their history as animal advocates is the only basis for these serious felony charges.

  1. What happened to our country? How did we fall so far and so few realize it? Thank you for putting this page together. Now that these gross injustices are finally seeing the light of day, I will be writing those I morally mesh in the hopes to boost their morale & let them know they are NOT forgotten. Then, I will be writing a LOT of letters on their behalf as this is not justice by any standard I recognize.
Whistle-blowers, hacktivists, & activists are the stuff this country will look back on one day and write FONDLY of as the beginning of everything that mattered… If you don’t mix things up now and again, all the scum rises to the top; our country is certainly proof positive of that!

  2. I could not be more appalled and saddened to read these peoples stories…the small petty things they are accused of purposefully blown up into federal charges..These fascist in government and law enforcement get to make stuff up and throw books at people for the gall of telling the truth to power and so they get this kind of over zealous abuse by a system of psychopathic abusers ..YES psychopaths with badges and certificates and flags..its so disgusting i have no more words for my disdain of what the USA has become and its sick despicable system and the little weasaly police jar heads and prosecutors and corrupted judges. I can only hope that some day there is a blowback and a reckoning for all this.. I will celebrate it.

  3. tHANK YOU brothers and sisters for your support and continued efforts. This has got to stop! (what is going on) I was a part of Occupy Charl;otte, we were infiltrated by police, even had undercovers starting fights and fueling racial animosity, and literally NOT doing their jobs to protect people, as a form of their “counter-protest”, some of us went to jail trying to save women and protecting others.
furthermore, they were trying to frame people, and even went so far as to accuse me and others of being a terrorist cell, with plans to assassinate the president.
Just as means to intimidate and splinter us. Be careful everyone, and NEVER GIVE UP! I love you all. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to share.

  4. This is a great resource! (But look at how many people are being hounded by the government for spreading the truth.) Question: does the rule about no card stock mean prisoners will not receive post cards?

  5. We never stop fallowing Humanity Heroes. They do that for us. We should fallow and never stop asking and try non stop contact them for not disappeared !!! I was ordinary citizen until I read Julian Assange! I didn’t believe the stories accuse him! I am changed. All the lie of USA government changed me to trust Julian and Anonymous

  6. this is exactly why everything is fucked up as it is. while there is terror in the streets, rapists, murderers, etc. people who are incarcerated wrongly are in there doing time others deserve.

  7. Wow thank you i have been writing prisoners once a week for the passed 2 years and now i just found this site . So now I have more folks to write too. We do 1 or 2 group writing a month. I have used list from ABC and others. It great to have another site to info!!!! also have books to donate I have been working in and out of bookstore for 25 years, not all political. I have been locked up in my pass and books and letters helped me so much…

  8. I would like to be of some help but my English is not the best so if any of these persons speaks Spanish would become easier to be in contact. By the way I am from Bolivia and letters may a take a while to get there.
